Pittsburg, CA – After competing in the first two rounds of the Patron North American Endurance Cup, Mike Guasch has put his 2014 program on hiatus. Paired with Frankie Montecalvo and Gunnar Jeannette, the PR1/Mathiasen team had difficult runs at both Daytona and Sebring, however demands off the track have forced Guasch to step out of the cockpit.
“It’s always a difficult decision to step away from competition. The PC field is really deep this year and when we took the lead at Sebring, it felt like we were finding our championship legs again,” Guasch explained. “It would have been great to defend the PC championship, but the Molecule Labs business is really taking a giant leap forward.
Guasch, who has balanced his motorsports career while developing a premier specialty chemical manufacturing company, has re-focused his attention recently on new products of Molecule Labs. Long known as a leader in motorsports with Nomex protection and cleaners, Molecule Labs has been growing significantly, requiring concentration on developing the business.
“We’ve always been a specialty chemical manufacturer, but when we started exploring new markets to apply our expertise, it really became exciting,” Molecule Labs president Guasch noted. “We’re working 24/7 on elements of the business and really motivated about where we’re going.
The PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports team will return the track this weekend May 2-4, at the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix powered by Mazda. “We’ll be in Monterey supporting the team, Frankie and Gunnar. As a west coast based team, looking forward to see the PR1 boys excel at their home track.
